El Greco (presentation)

This is a project that ended up as my diplomat essay for my computer science degree. It has nothing to do with an original artwork as it is merely a presentation of the work of Dominikos Theotokopoulos (El Greco), a famous Greek - Spanish mannerist painter. It is a multimedia work made with Macromedia Authorware (finished around 2002). It tries to cover a great deal of El Greco's work, ie. paintings and sculptures but also to provide biographical info as well as analysis of his work and his views about art and his contemporary artists (such as Michelangelo, or Titian).

All photos of his work are taken from various galleries of the net (such as Olga's Gallery, WebMuseum etc.), most of the texts belong to a special edition of a book called "El Greco, Identity and Transformation" (editor Jose Alvarez Lopera) published for the great exhibition of Greco' s works in the National Gallery of Athens in 1999-2000 and the music belongs to the 1998 album El Greco, of the famous composer Vangelis Papathanasiou. As I was a student at the time it was extremely difficult to obtain licences for the use of all this material . I was told that this wasn't needed for a educational project as Greco clearly was. However, I feel obliged to add that the publishing of the project here doesn't serve any commercial purposes.

Their struggle marked the beginning of a decade of workers' and students' mobilizations and the rise of the Autonomy movement. It was characterized by many as the last invasion of the working class into the sky. Last ... let's hope until the next one ...
